welcomes Dr. Daniel C. Deckler as the 2009 WISE
Faculty-Member-in-Residence.
Dr. Deckler is a
professor of engineering at the University of Akron - Wayne
College in Orrville, Ohio. He has been associated with
the University of Akron engineering faculty since 1991.
Deckler recently
completed a year in Washington (Sept. 2007-August 2008) as
an ASME Congressional Fellow (Sept. 2007-August 2008)
working for the House Committee
on Science and Technology as a technology advisor and
liaison to the office of U.S. Rep. Phil Gringrey (R-GA), the
ranking member of the Subcommittee on Technology and
Innovation. During his Fellowship, Deckler worked on a
wide variety of issues including the economics of climate
change, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, health IT, STEM
education, women in science and engineering and engineering
globalization.
Prior to joining the
University of Akron engineering faculty, Deckler held
engineering positions with Loral Defense Systems, The Timken
Company, and Rockwell International.
Deckler holds a B.S. in
mechanical engineering with computer science option from
Ohio Northern University, and received an M.S. in mechanical
engineering and a Ph.D. in engineering from the University
of Akron.
Deckler is a registered
professional engineer in the state of Ohio and an active
member of the ASME, the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, and the American Society for
Engineering Education.
